Charlton Athletic have bolstered their defence with a bold, international signing: Collins Sichenje, the 22-year-old Kenyan centre-back, has joined the Addicks from Serbian SuperLiga side FK Vojvodina on a three-and-a-half year contract. The move adds fresh pace and promise to a squad already reshaped this window.
Sichenje is the club’s seventh signing of the transfer period, joining the likes of Harry Clarke, Lyndon Dykes, Luke Chambers, Tiernan Brooks, Jayden Fevrier, and Conor Coady.
Charlton’s leadership framed the transfer as part of a long-term plan to accelerate the club’s progress, with the opportunity to bring Sichenje in earlier than planned hailed as a win for the team’s momentum.
Managing Director James Rodwell said the club had tracked Collins for some time and praised ownership for enabling an early arrival that fits the club’s multi-window strategy.
Manager Nathan Jones described Sichenje as an aggressive, front-footed centre-back with the raw attributes to develop alongside the team.
At just 22, Sichenje represents both immediate defensive reinforcement and a long-term investment — a player expected to grow into a cornerstone of Charlton’s backline.
On signing, Sichenje captured the mood succinctly: “It feels amazing to be here. It’s a big step for my career. I’m ready to work, develop and help the team.”
Born in Butere, Kenya, Sichenje’s journey reads like a modern football odyssey.
He began with local side Green Commandos before moving to AFC Leopards in 2019. A brief spell with PAOK B in Greece preceded a return to Leopards and then a move to Sweden’s AIK in 2022.
Loan stints in Finland with KuPS Kuopio and a successful loan-turned-permanent spell at FK Vojvodina showcased his adaptability and steady rise through European football.
Internationally, Sichenje has already earned eight caps for Kenya, debuting in a 1-0 win over South Sudan in March 2021.
The Addicks return to The Valley on Friday to face Queens Park Rangers, and Collins Sichenje arrives ready to stake his claim. His signing signals Charlton’s intent: a club blending experienced recruits with youthful potential, aiming to build a defence that can anchor a push up the table.
